About 80 Rotarians from various clubs in the Rotary InterCity fellowship attended the Intercity lunch meeting March 29, hosted by the Rotary Club of Webster Groves, in celebration of 100 years of Rotary service and fun. The Rotary Club of St. Louis, Club 11, sponsored their club in 1924.
The Rotary Club of Clayton-Ladue was awarded the prize ribbon for having the most members attending the event as a percent of our club membership. The group included Tim Blattner, Tim Durbin, Charlie and Emily Jernigan, and Marshall Galliers.
Raffi Andonian, celebrity historian, TV personality, business designer, and member of the Rotary Club of St. Louis served as Emcee for the event. His humor and lively banter raised laughter as well as dollars that were donated to the Rotary Foundation and Rotary clubs providing eye operations.
Charlie Brennan, long-time KMOX host and moderator of KETC-TV’s “Donnybrook” was the featured speaker. He captured audience interest and prompted questions as he gave us data on ways St. Louis could do better as well as ways in which it excels. As a bonus he offered his latest book, “Only in St. Louis, the Most Incredible, Strange and Inspiring Tales,” to attendees for a significantly discounted price. Many people accepted his offer.
Since 1958, the Metro St. Louis InterCity Fellowship has promoted Rotary fellowship, on a monthly basis, among many of the clubs in St. Louis, and St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. The Fellowship is not an official program of Rotary District 6060 or Rotary International. It is an independent fellowship opportunity for the affiliated clubs in the area.
